The Minaret of Chellah is one of the most recognizable monuments in Rabat and stands within the archaeological site of Chellah (Shalla), a place whose history spans more than two thousand years. The issue appeared shortly before the outbreak of World War II and reflects the importance of air transport and airmail connections between Morocco, France, and the wider French colonial network during the late 1930s.
