Bab Chorfa in Fez (1955) - 8 franc

Bab Chorfa (Gate of the Nobles) is one of the monumental historic gates granting entry to the ancient walled medina of Fez (Fes el-Bali), adjacent to the Kasbah des Cherarda and Place Bou Jeloud. Built with imposing crenellated octagonal watchtowers, massive masonry walls, and a classic horseshoe archway, the gate stands as a prominent example of Moroccan medieval military and urban architecture. Issued in 1955 as part of a definitive architectural and landscapes series (MAROC / المغرب), this 5-franc postage stamp (POSTES / BAB CHORFA à FES) features a finely engraved rendering in carmine red. Designed by A. Delpy and engraved by Fiel, the vignette captures the fortified stone facade and deep portal of the historic gate.
