Parcel Post with Arabesque Ornamentation - 1 Franc
This 1917 stamp highlights the expansion of modern logistical services within the French Protectorate of Morocco, specifically designated for parcel post (Colis-Postaux). The illustration carries a message of institutional sophistication and cultural respect by utilizing traditional Maghrebi arabesque and geometric patterns to frame the bilingual text. In the Moroccan context, this program reflects the colonial administration's effort to integrate European bureaucratic structures—such as a specialized postal system for goods—with the country's rich decorative heritage. By featuring prominent Arabic calligraphy alongside French, the stamp serves as a functional symbol of the dual administrative identity of the era, showcasing how the state sought to project an image of orderly progress while honoring the aesthetic nature of the Sharifian Empire's artistic crafts.
