Stamp Day - Tour Rekka
Stamp Day (Journée du Timbre) was instituted to promote philately and honor the historic role of postal communication in society. In Morocco, annual Stamp Day issues frequently highlighted the history of pre-modern postal networks and traditional communications within the Kingdom. Issued in 1953 by Morocco (MAROC / المغرب), this postage issue (POSTES) commemorates Stamp Day 1953 (Journée du Timbre 1953). The vignette depicts a traditional mounted postal courier—a Rakkas (or Tour Rekka) on horseback carrying dispatches, stopping near a public scribe (écrivain public) set against an ornate Moorish horseshoe archway, celebrating the historic heritage of Moroccan mail transport and literacy.
